A voice carries the mind better than text
What they found
Evaluators who HEARD a candidate's pitch judged them more intelligent, more thoughtful and more hireable than evaluators who READ the exact same words.
How they know
MBA candidates made short job pitches; professional recruiters and other evaluators were randomly given the pitch as audio, video or transcript, and their ratings were compared.
What it means for you
When you want someone to trust your thinking - a pitch, an offer, an apology - reach for your voice before your keyboard. A call or a meeting does what the same words in text cannot.
The limits
Short pitches in a hiring frame, US samples; the effect is about conveying intellect - it does not make weak content strong.
This is a short takeaway in our own words, not a reproduction of the study. For the method, the sample and the caveats, read the original. Mind lives inside the Booking Minds app under the brain icon, where you can save and share each piece.
