Sleep shows on your face - and people respond to it
What they found
Strangers rated photos of the same people as less healthy, less attractive and more tired after sleep deprivation than after a full night's rest.
How they know
Twenty-three adults were photographed twice under identical studio conditions - once well rested, once after five hours' sleep followed by a night and day awake - and 65 untrained observers rated the shuffled photos.
What it means for you
Before a meeting that matters, the night before is part of the preparation. People read sleep off your face within seconds, and it colors how they respond to you.
The limits
A small Swedish sample, photo ratings rather than live interaction, and a manipulation harsher than an ordinary bad night; the differences were clear but modest - the point is the direction.
This is a short takeaway in our own words, not a reproduction of the study. For the method, the sample and the caveats, read the original. Mind lives inside the Booking Minds app under the brain icon, where you can save and share each piece.
